Curriculum Policy of Department of Biotechnology and Life Science (Master's Program)
① Curriculum composition policy
In order to realize the diploma policy, Department of Biotechnology and Life Science (Master's course) offers systematic education with the aim of nurturing talent who will be responsible for cutting-edge research in biotechnology, which continues to make remarkable advances, and who will contribute to the health and welfare of humanity from an international perspective. The program offers major training subjects to cultivate the foundations required for cutting-edge research in biotechnology while practicing it (Perspectives A and B), as well as to cultivate talent who have the motivation to boldly challenge new research fields and contribute to society (Perspectives B and C). Furthermore, the program offers interdisciplinary lecture subjects and major training subjects to provide a flexible and wide-ranging educational curriculum with the aims of cultivating interdisciplinary thinking, the ability to summarize related technologies from a bird's-eye view, the ability to disseminate research results, and educational guidance and practical experience (Perspective D).
② Policies regarding the content and implementation of education
In order to allow students to acquire highly specialized knowledge, we offer courses broadly categorized into biofunctional engineering, applied bioengineering, and biosociety engineering, which cover a wide range of academic fields in the field of bioengineering. We also offer special lectures on biofunctional engineering, applied bioengineering, and bioengineering seminars to acquire specialized knowledge and problem-solving skills in bioengineering special research, which will allow students to present related technologies in a comprehensive manner. In preparation for master's thesis research, we offer small-group instruction in bioengineering seminars and advanced bioengineering research for the writing of master's thesis. In addition, we offer special courses in bioengineering English to foster interdisciplinary thinking, special courses in presentations to cultivate the ability to disseminate research results, and special courses in bioengineering education and research to provide educational guidance and off-campus training.
③ Policy regarding methods for evaluating learning outcomes
In order to develop engineers and researchers who have acquired the skills stipulated in the diploma policy, students are graded by exams and reports for lectures, and by reports and oral exams for experiments, practical training, and exercises. Course grades are expressed in five grades: S, A, B, C, and D, with S, A, B, and C being passes and D being a fail. Students who pass are awarded the designated number of credits. In addition, for dissertations, the examination criteria and methods are clearly stated, and the dissertation examination and final examination are conducted rigorously by the Dissertation Examination Committee based on theses.
